Time to Get Serious
I will be the first to admit that I have been taking it easy the last few weeks – er, months – basically, ever since the Princess Half Marathon. I know, I know. I’m a bit of slacker.
But, that is all behind me now. Why? Because it’s time to start my training for the Dumbo Double Dare! That’s right. This is officially week 2 of my 19 week training program leading up to a back-to-back 10k and a half marathon!

I’m way excited about the races and probably more so about the bling… My husband and I will collect a Disneyland 10k medal, a Disneyland Half Marathon medal and one for the Dumbo Double Dare (or DDD for short). Plus, we already did the Princess Half Marathon which qualifies us for the Coast to Coast medal! Whew – 1 weekend, 2 races, 4 medals – I can’t wait!

The Training Plan
For my first half marathon, I followed the Jeff Galloway plan. It was the ‘official’ race plan sponsored by runDisney and it suited me really well. There were two runs during the week and one long run on the weekend. This fit in nicely with the somewhat crazy life we have at our house. I’m planning to follow their DDD schedule with a few lessons learned.
I did pretty well with the Princess Half Marathon training schedule until the last few weeks. There were lots of life interruptions and I didn’t follow it as closely as I wanted to. The long runs really suffered and I paid for it during the race.
I promised myself that I would do better with the Dumbo Double Dare… that many miles in one weekend needs to have some dedication!
The Execution So Far
Unfortunately, I haven’t been doing so well. In fact, I’ve only done about half of my scheduled runs. This is simply not acceptable! I need to start making time to getting this turned around and fast.
My Big Plan
So how do I plan to change my priorities? It’s all about making time. I have a few steps that I think are going to really help:
1. Laundry Management – I don’t keep up well with my dirty clothes and then I have a marathon laundry day. I am going to start doing one load every other night. This will help me keep up but not kill me on my running nights.
2. Meal Plan Ahead – I tried to plan/purchase/prep all of my meals a week in advance a few weeks ago. It was amazing. I need to do this in the future to keep meal time easy and stress free!
3. Start Planning Morning Runs – Ugh… I really don’t like this one because it is so hard for me to get out of bed in the morning. But, I know that this will be a necessity and I need to just do it!
The Wrap Up
So that’s my big plan. I’ll keep checking in with updates to keep me accountable – and be sure to ask me to keep me on my toes!
